St. John’s Handbell Choir, an inter-generational group, will
entertain you with music and will do a short demonstration.
Handbells are capable of producing a variety of sounds, from
delicate melodies to big, loud chords. We’ll demonstrate the basic
ringing technique as well as how to produce special effects such as
plucking, striking with a mallet, tower ringing, and more. The
program will conclude with an opportunity for audience members to
give bell-ringing a try. A hot dog lunch will be served. Kids,
invite a neighbor or a friend to join you! All are welcome!

Strings and Wings
Sunday, November 7, 2010 at 12:00 PM
Do you want to see a 100-year old golden harp? Have the
opportunity to interact with and hear "Heavenly Harpist"
Emily Gerard, a Carnegie Mellon Masters graduate and harp
teacher at MacPhail Center for Music? Then join us in the
Fellowship Hall for lunch and a fun harp demonstration. Ms.
Gerard will engage kids of all ages as she introduces this string
instrument and its history, how its strings and pedals work, and
plays a mini-concert to demonstrate its many sounds. Chicken
wings (nuggets for the little ones) and accompanying fare will be on
the menu. Invite your friends and family to attend this
"angelic event".

Percussion and Pasta
Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 12:00 Noon
Experience the many unique sounds created by
instruments that are part of the ancient family known as percussion.
This will be more than tambourines and cymbals! Our own Scott Prescott, a
professional percussionist, parent of two boys and middle school teacher is
well qualified to be the presenter.
His presentation will be geared especially to children but will
appeal to all ages. Spaghetti
and meatballs, kids’ favorite, will be on the menu!
